Here's a bit more history and current status: """"Corporate Design, Inc. was established in 1870 as Evansville Furniture Company, specializing in manufacturing of home casegoods, seating, bedroom, dining room furniture. In 1919, Universal Furniture Co., was founded by Mr. A.E. Small, Sr. Universal Furniture was a highly successful wholesale furniture company servicing the states of Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Missouri. The business was taken over by Mr. A.E. Small, Jr. in the early 1950s. Upon Mr. Small, Jr.'s decision to retire, his son J. Michael Small, purchased the stock and assets of Universal Furniture's contract division. J. Michael Small had been directing the contract division for seven years and upon acquiring it in 1983, established Corporate Design, Inc. In 1985 Corporate Design, Inc. moved into a new corporate office in a portion of Universal Furniture's original home.
