Appears to be a dedication of a plaque honoring the gravesite of Robert M. Evans. The plaque reads: ""Within these grounds is the final resting place of General Robert Morgan Evans. Soldier, pioneer, business man, and one of the original proprietors of this city Evansville which bears his name. Erected 1956."" A young girl and 2 men (all unidentified) stand by the plaque, with floral arrangements in the foreground. Evans (1782-1842) was born in Botetourt County, Virginia, served under William Henry Harrison in the War of 1812, and is buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, where the occasion depicted here probably took place. Two notes: 1. Discrepancies were found in the birth and death dates. 2. Evans did not found the city of Evansville, but it was named after him as he was more prominent and his name more likely to attract settlers than that of the actual founder.
