Bulletin board display about Capt. Elijah W. Worsham. Elijah William Worsham (1886-1918) graduated from Evansville High School/Central High School in 1904, the captain of the football, basketball, and baseball teams for 1903-1904. He was killed in WWI in the Meuse-Argonne offensive on September 29, 1918. From the Find-a-Grave website: ""Captain, Machine Gun Company, 362nd Infantry Regiment, 91st Division, US Army. Entered the service from Seattle, Washington. Killed in action. Awarded the Distinguished Service Cross. From his citation: ""For extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 362d Infantry Regiment, 91st Division, A.E.F., near Gesnes, France, 26 September 1918. In command of the machine-gun company, Captain Worsham personally led his men forward, reconnoitering and establishing a line for machine-gun emplacements under terrific artillery and machine-gun fire. His fearless and aggressive leadership was of the utmost assistance in the capture of Gesnes. In exposing himself to hostile fire, in order to observe the fire effect of his guns, he was killed.""""
