Fred Geiger and Sons at 401 NW 2nd St., formerly 101 Lower 2nd St., was built in 1894 for Marsh-Scantlin Bakery, officially United States Baking Co. Marsh Scantlin & Co. branch Evansville. In 1910 they were bought out by the National Biscuit Co. The company, Fred Geiger and Sons, later Geiger Moving & Storage, was founded in 1865 and moved into this location by 1922. Around 1960 the company became affiliated with United Van Lines. Today the building is being rehabbed into industrial style apartments.
