Description

From the left: Mandel Sabel Electric Company at 106 NW 1st St. This was razed in the mid-1960s. Mandel Sabel (1899-1979) owned this business for 40 years. Smith and Butterfield Co. machine division at 108-110 NW 1st St., Rose Bowl Lanes, Inc. at 116 1/2 NW 1st St. , Lockyear's Letter Service at 118 NW 1st St., and Brucken Co. Inc. at 120-124 NW 1st St. The bowling alley sat on the site of the 1889 Mackey Building, gutted by fire in 1938 and razed, the lot was vacant until the bowling alley was built in 1942. Brucken's is in the 1888 Mackey Nisbet Co. building (unclear when Brucken's moved in), the building was razed in 1969 and Brucken's moved to another location. Nothing pictured here still stands.
