Colonel Charles Harvey Denby (1830-1904) ""Civil War Union Army Officer. He served during the Civil War first as as Lieutenant Colonel of the 42nd Indiana Volunteer Infantry, and was wounded twice in the October 8, 1862 Battle of Perryville, Kentucky. While recouperating, he was appointed as Colonel and commander of the 80th Indiana Volunteer Infantry, being commissioned on October 17, 1862. He served until he resigned on January 17, 1863, being unable to continue field service due to his wounds. He later served as United Minister to China from 1885 to 1898. His father-in-law was Graham Newell Fitch, who served as a US Congressman, and, during the Civil War, Colonel of the 46th Indiana Volunteer Infantry.
