Despite the sign for the branch of the Oriental Shop seen here, this is the 400 block of Main St. From the right is the Fowler, Dick, and Walker building (see F.D. & W. in parapet), aka the Boston Store, at 417-423 Main St., built in 1889. At one time it was Evansville's largest department store. Kresge's was at 425 Main St., Liggett's Drug Store at 431 Main St. Nothing seen here remains standing, most of this block was razed for a new Kresge's store in 1948.
