TY - GEN N2 - Wreck at 8th St. and Walnut St., during street car strike May 17, 1907. According to a story in the May 25, 1907 Cannelton (IN) Enquirer, the car was going full speed when it ran off the track and struck the confectionary store, tearing away its front and fatally injuring two or three people. An 18 month old child was buried in the rubble and not expected to live. Apparently the driver was non-union; two strike sympathizers boarded the car and argued with the driver about stopping the car and joining the strike. The driver was frightened and lost his head, turning on full power and losing control due to speed, the downward slope of the street, and the shallowness of the switches.
