Description

Children participate in field day at Bosse Field. Field Day was a large, yearly event where students from the local school would put on a performance featuring music, dance, patriotic displays and calisthenics for the Evansville public. (https://www.courierpress.com/story/life/2018/05/28/history-lesson-field-day-league-park-evansville-history/639085002/) Bosse Field was at the end of N. Main St., in Garvin Park. Bosse Field opened in 1915 and was the first municipally owned sports facility in the United States. Only Bostons Fenway Park (1912) and Chicagos Wrigley Field (1914) are older than Evansvilles Bosse Field. (http://www.visitevansville.com/attractions/bosse-field) It was named for Benjamin Bosse, mayor of Evansville, 1914-1922.
