Description

Globe-Bosse-World Furniture Co., Evansville, Ind. Largest Furniture Manufacturing Plant in the World. [Designed by] Clifford Shopbell and Co., Architects, Evansville, Ind. World Furniture Company was founded in 1907 by Albert Karges, John Boehne, Ben Bosse, Henry Bosse, Sr., Chas. Frisse, and Henry Karges. There are no dollar amounts available, but we would have to assume that each factory had similar capitalization as the Globe Furniture Company. Formed from 3 companies in 1910, Globe Bosse World located west [of] Maryland [St.], just west of Pigeon Creek. [It] covered 30+ acres [and was] built on angle because E and TH RR [Evansville and Terre Haute Railroad] used to travel along west side of building. (http://historicevansville.com/site.php?id=worldfurniture) Today these buildings (possibly not all) still stand and house a business that manufactures pallets and skids. NOTE: The men who formed this company were among the movers and shakers of Evansville. Both Boehne and Benjamin Bosse served as mayors of Evansville, with Boehne also serving in Congress. Henry Bosse was a city councilman. Both of the Kargeses and Frisse were also active in civic and business life.
