Description

Walker's Sanitarium at 412 SE 4th St., formerly 712 Upper 4th St. Evansville Sanitarium opened in 1894 in this building. It expanded (possibly the shorter addition on the left) in 1914 and became Walker Hospital or Walker Sanitarium. In the 1920s it became Walker-Welborn Hospital, and in 1944 was incorporated as Welborn Memorial Baptist Hospital. There was much expansion over the years to the point that nothing seen here remains. Welborn closed in the 1990s, with other medical facilities currently using its space.
