Description
Simpson Methodist (Episcopa) Church at 2201 W. Illinois St., formerly 1101 W. Illinois St. The congregation of Pennsylvania St. ME, which formed in 1830, built the structure seen in RH 033-102 in 1884 and renamed it Simpson ME, in honor of Bishop Simpson, the first bishop from Indiana. It was dedicated April 1884. In 1912 the congregation moved to another new structure across the street (pictured here). With only a minor change in signage, the 2022 church looks nearly identical to this. The dates J. Floyd Seelig served as minister are unknown, but he was known to be at Simpson in 1952, and he died in Bloomington in 1960.
