Description
New entrance to Welborn Baptist Hospital in the snow. Welborn Memorial Baptist Hospital at 412 SE 4th St. Evansville Sanitarium opens January 18, 1894. In 1914 it expanded and was renamed Walker Hospital, and was agained renamed Welborn Walker Hospital sometime in the 1920s-early 1930s. In 1944, the hospital was sold to the First Baptist Church in Evansville, and subsequently named Welborn Memorial Baptist Hospital. In 1999 this hospital was sold to St. Marys Hospital (now called St. Vincents). The hospital eventually closed, but funds from its sale created what is now the Welborn Baptist Foundation, a charitable organization that supports the area and mission of its initial hospital. These buildings still stand and continue to house healthcare facilities.
