Reitz Memorial High School at 1500 Lincoln Ave., graduating class of 1953. Francis Joseph Reitz, a local businessman, purchased the land for the school in 1922, and it opened in January 1925. Boys were taught by the Brothers of The Holy Cross and the girls by the Sisters of Providence. Major additions were begun in 1967 and again in 1998. Interestingly, Reitz also raised funds for and had a public high school named in his honor in 1918. The school shown here is generally referred to as Memorial, and the public school is callled Reitz.
