Description

Construction of a $5.5 million addition to Deaconess Hospital, with five floors and 200 additional beds. The hospital is at 600 Mary St. In 1893, the Protestant Deaconess Association purchased a house at the corner of Mary St. and Iowa St. and renovated it into a 19 bed hospital. In 1899 a new hospital was built. Through the years this building was added on to and remodeled, and in the early 1970s the original hospital building was demolished to make room for more expansion. Today the hospital campus covers 20 city blocks. Photograph from the Evansville Courier.
