Description
Chrysler plant (foreground) at 1625 N. Garvin St. On this site originally was the Graham Brothers Truck Company (1919), which merged with Dodge in 1925; the Dodge plant was taken over by Chrysler in 1928. Dodges continued to be built until 1932 when operation ceased; it resumed in 1935 and soon thereafter Plymouth production began with the 1936 model cars. A shelter operated out of this location during the 1937 flood. During WWII, Chrysler retooled to produce 96% of all .45 ammunition for all the armed forces. Plymouth produced began again after the war until the plant closed in 1959. Some parts of these buildings remain today. Photograph from the Evansville Press.
