Description

Statue on the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Coliseum at 350 Court St. It was built in 1916-1917 as a tribute to the men of Vanderburgh County who fought in the American Civil War and Spanish�American War. The figure shown here, probably representing Liberty, is above two Union soldiers and is part of one of two statues on the front of the building by Rockport, IN native George H. Honig. This one is on the right as you face the building and is entitled The Spirit of 1916 and portrays the reflections of elderly Civil War veterans. SEE ALSO MSS 184-0154.
