Description
Correspondence from Private Cliff Cottrell to Ann Ruxer. Probable identification: Clifford Cyril Cy Cottrell, 1921-1980. He was born and died in Iowa, so it is likely this was a soldier she wrote to but did not personally know. In another letter in this collection he mentions his slster working with Ann, so this is probably where Ann got his name to write to. He hopes she's over her illness, and wishes he had been there to tuck her into bed, because this is something needs to know how to do in case the need should arise later in life. Doesn't she think he should have been there? He's glad she liked the candy he sent for Easter....it wasn't much, but he wanted to show he has a heart. He tells her not to get hot and bothered about the ring his sister Loretto asked her about. He can't even afford to buy a Liberty magazine let alone a diamond ring, and should he ever buy one of those, he'd be there to put it on the girl's finger. Cabish? (Italian for understand.)? [He means capische.] He wonders if she's coming out to Iowa to see him when he gets back. He's decided to go on a 3 day spree and would love for her to come along. If she'll let him know, he'll get a reserved ticket for her. He's still looking for that picture, and if he doesn't get it, they will have to have a little talk. He wants one like the poses in The Artist's Sketch Pad. He asks who the boy is she's been taking to St. Meinrad for the weekends. He supposes that by the time he's back this guy will have an option on the state of Indiana and I won't be able to set foot in it.
