Harris Class Transport: Laid down in early 1919 at New York Shipbuilding Corp, Camden, N.J. as an Army Transport under USSB contract, Launched, 25 May 1919, Completed in June 1921 as SS Wenatchee, but determined to be excess to Army needs, Sold for merchant service to Pacific Steamship Co. as SS Wenatchee, Purchased by Admiral Orient Line in November 1922, renamed SS President Jefferson, Returned to the Maritime Commission for lay up in the reserve fleet at Seattle, WA. in 1938, Acquired by the U.S. Army Transport Service, 1 November 1940, from the Maritime Commission, Assigned to the ATS Pacific Fleet with homeport at Fort Mason, CA, Renamed USAT Henry T. Allen, 12 February 1941, Transferred to the Navy, 6 December 1941, and placed in reduced commission for transit to Moore Dry Dock Co., Oakland, CA., for conversion to a Naval Transport, Commissioned in full as USS Henry T. Allen (AP-30), 22 April 1942, CAPT. Paul A. Stevens USN in command. During World War II USS Henry T. Allen (AP-30 / APA-15) was assigned to the Europe-Africa-Middle East Theater and to the Asiatic-Pacific Theater participating in the following campaigns: Europe-Africa-Middle East Campaign (North African occupation, Algeria-Morocco landings, 8 to 11 November 1942 ). Asiatic-Pacific Campaign (Western New Guinea operations, Toem-Wakde-Sarmi area operation, 17 May 1944), (Hollandia operation, Tanahmerah Bay 21 to 24 April 1944 and 2 to 9 May 1944) Reclassified, Attack Transport (APA-15), 1 February 1943. Reclassified, Miscellaneous Auxiliary (AG-90) in 1944. Decommissioned, 5 February 1946, and returned to the Maritime Commission for lay up in the National Defense Reserve Fleet, Suisun Bay, Benecia, CA. Struck from the Naval Register, 25 February 1946. USS Henry T. Allen (AP-30 / APA-15 / AG-90) earned three battle stars for World War II service. Final Disposition, sold for scrapping, 2 January 1948, to Boston Metals Co., Baltimore MD. (PD-X-401 dated 7 October 1947), withdrawn from the Reserve Fleet and delivered NASSCO (https://www.navsource.org/archives/10/03/03015.htm).
