Description
Postcard of: ""Metz-Fontaine- Esplanade""-- a fountain promenade ""The Esplanade is a garden of Metz with an area of 9,200 m located west of the district of Metz Center. The Esplanade is bordered on the longest opposite sides by the Palace of Justice and the Arsenal near the Chapel of the Knights Templar and the Basilica of St. Peter the Nonnans . It overlooks the Moselle valley, the Saint-Symphorien lake opposite Mont Saint-Quentin . This garden consists of two malls of linden trees and chestnut trees that surround the flowered central part and a circular pool animated by a jet of water. Several statues were made by artists of the School of Metz : that of Marshal Ney , the nymph of ""The Source"" of Charles Ptre , the bronze horse of Christophe Fratin , a bust of Paul Verlaine and that of the Hairy liberator [thought to be the one seen here] , placed in the former kiosk 2 prior to 1861 (it already existed at the World Expo Metz ), disappeared as a result of the development of the Esplanade car park in the 1960s (it is most likely inspired that of the Parc du Cours at pinal realized in 1863).""
