St. John's German Evangelical/St. John's UCC (United Church of Christ) at 321 NW 3rd St., formerly 25 Lower 3rd St., was built in 1850. In 1893 a storm damaged the steeple and the square tower seen here was built. A parish hall was added in 1921. Around 1951 the church was enlarged and modernized with a stone facade. It is the 1951 church that stands today, little resembling what is seen here. Note the church's name in German in this photograph toward the bottom of the tower.
