(He has dated this letter incorrectly as it is 1946.) ""The day of liberation is growing closer all the time."" He should be on his way the 20th of the month and if that works out home by mid-February. The time has gone quickly in some ways, dragged in others. He's been acting 1st Sergeant for a week and they haven't thrown him out so if he's lucky he'll get the stripes before coming home. It surely would make things easier coming home if he does, and since he hasn't advanced for some time, they probably thought he was in a rut. He's been doing a lot of work but staying busy is good. He's going to start spending the weekends at the Nara Hotel. The army has taken it over and is using it as a rest camp. It's up in the mountains overlooking the city and is just like a resort hotel in the states and a wonderful place to spend the night.
