Description

Correspondence from Owen Hamilton to his sister June Meyer and brother-in-law Morgan Meyer (June E. Hooe Hamilton Meyer, 1919-2010 (https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/81471045/june-e_hooe-meyer) and (Morgan G. Meyer, 1916-2000 (https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/43119273/morgan-g.-meyer). They are out in the field every day until 6:00 pm, so he has little time for letter-writing. They are preparing for a 2 week firing test and those 105 Howitzers are noisy. At times there are guns behind them shooting over their heads and the shells really whistle as they fly over. Although they aren't big guns, the concussion is terrific, and sitting in a car 100 yards away you can really feel it. All he does is go out and lay down and hope the radio works. There are lots of pine trees and the needles make the softest cushion. He expects to get home after the first of the year; this will be his first Christmas away, but he guesses that he is lucky at that. He comments to Morgan that Dothan, AL has a Masonic chapter although he doesn't know much about it, but he hopes to see it when he gets to town.
