Description

Correspondence from Owen Hamilton to his sister June Meyer and brother-in-law Morgan Meyer (June E. Hooe Hamilton Meyer, 1919-2010 (https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/81471045/june-e_hooe-meyer) and (Morgan G. Meyer, 1916-2000 (https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/43119273/morgan-g.-meyer). The letter is addressed to Mom, Pop, and Ginny. He says this is Uncle Owen with his weekly letter. He tries to write during the week but cannot manage it except for on weekends. He was out in the field last week and is glad to be back with a bed. He did some little chores around the tent today and is going to make a good wife when he gets out. You should see him with a wash board--he can really shake a wicked elbow. Liberation is coming some day and he can put down the wash board and make an honest living. Mary (the WAVE he met) had him over and they had a nice band at the dance. It was the first time he saw as many girls as boys. You have to be off the streets by 10:00 pm so you're just getting started good and then have to leave, but he's not complaining because he could be in the war. He asks how his niece is doing and how much has she grown and what does she weigh now? He also wants a picture. He signs off saying he's ready for a little bunk drill--the thing he does best in the army.
