Description
Correspondence from Owen Hamilton to his sister June Meyer (June E. Hooe Hamilton Meyer, 1919-2010 (https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/81471045/june-e_hooe-meyer). Things are getting hot as many of the fellows are skipping drill after school and the officers are hunting them down and making them drill extra. As he came in tonight, he saw the Lt. in the next barracks and came in quickly and sat down on his bed and got his shoes off. He hurt his foot yesterday and knew he could get out of drill for this. He pretended not to see the Lt. and kept looking at his foot. When asked what was wrong with his foot, he said he hurt it yesterday. He was asked if he'd gone to the infirmary and said no, and then was told to report to the infirmary instead of for drill. So, he's still getting out of that stuff. This time next week he will be through with school and ready to leave. He went to ask about his furlough and it's a hopeless case right now. If he ever does get one he will let her know as he wants to slip home and surprise Mother. He went into Carthage over the weekend to go swimming. The towns around there are small but very beautiful. They are old towns and most of the buildings are built of rocks. They have lots of trees and quite a few hills.
