Description
Correspondence from Owen Hamilton to his sister June Meyer (June E. Hooe Hamilton Meyer, 1919-2010 (https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/81471045/june-e_hooe-meyer). He thanks her for the box she sent, and says he's sending a box to Mom and it will have a kimono in it for her and Ginny (his niece). They weren't much so he'll try to get something better. He's also sending her a couple of parachutes which they can have something made out of if they want since it's supposed to be the best silk in Japan. Right now he's an M.P. and has to police the red light district! Can she imagine him going from house to house checking for soldiers and sailors? He can speak a little Japanese (very little) so he has quite a time talking to all the girls. This all came about because a sailor went on a drunk and killed a Japanese person and so now the Army and Navy have M.P.s and S.P.s out. They rarely find any soldiers and doubts if they'd run them in if they did. ""They should declare an open season on hunting some of these Japs and let the boys shoot them all."" He eats aboard ship with the sailors every evening and then goes out until 11:00, so it's a lot of fun. He guesses he will stay until Christmas and then go back to the base camp at Nara and wait to come home. Right now, it looks like he might be home by the middle of January.
