Description
Correspondence from Owen Hamilton to his sister June Meyer (June E. Hooe Hamilton Meyer, 1919-2010 (https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/81471045/june-e_hooe-meyer). Today is Mother's Day, but he says her mother's day will come in about a week and so next year they can dedicate this day to her and her new son (he hopes). He says if it's possible he's sweating this out even more than she is, so let him know any news ASAP. Under the new points system for discharging veterans, he has as much chance as a snowball in hell. It's about as fair a system as possible, though, and it only makes sense to discharge the men who have been fighting first. So they can expect him a little later, but better late than never. There was a time when he wanted to see a little action (very little) but he's gotten over that and is content to sit on this rock. As it is he goes to the beach every afternoon and has a girl in town, so what more could he want? He forgot about Emalie's (no further identification) birthday so he probably no longer has a girl at home. He doesn't know how he forgot this--either he's getting nervous in the service or fed up with the set up. She's commented that he's modest about what he's done in the service. He's not done much to be modest about, but will have plenty to say when he gets home. It seems a bit silly to have been in this long and not seen action. He needs to write Emalie a letter while he's still awake enough to do so.
