Description

Correspondence from Owen Hamilton to his sister June Meyer (June E. Hooe Hamilton Meyer, 1919-2010 (https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/81471045/june-e_hooe-meyer). It looks like fate is against him in terms of getting out of the army. Just when he thought he'd be there only a few more weeks, they went and cut the rate of discharges. He has no idea when he'll ever get out---maybe next summer, but he's just quit thinking about it. It's a raw deal, being overseas for 2 years and unable to get home. He thinks they're trying to get them to re-enlist, and he would NOT join the ________ army again if his life depended on it. He's made staff sergeant and should be 1st sergeant in a few weeks. He's the poorest excuse of a 1st Sergeant the army ever had because all the things a 1st Sergeant does, he doesn't, and since there's no one else there to do the work, they cannot throw him out. The colonel told him the other day he should re-enlist now that he has this good job, and he quickly told the colonel that he was not going to re-enlist and if he didn't get out soon, he might blow his top. He hasn't heard from them for awhile and so is being to be concerned that something is wrong at home. Right now he's so disgusted he's going to bed and sleep.
