Description

Correspondence from Owen Hamilton to his sister June Meyer (June E. Hooe Hamilton Meyer, 1919-2010 (https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/81471045/june-e_hooe-meyer). Yesterday he got a bargain of a lifetime Shaffer pen worth $12.50 for $7.50 and a $5 Ronson lighter for $2.50. Sometimes you can get some good bargains at the PX. Right now he's anxious to know if the baby is a boy or girl and has been looking for a nice present but is in doubt. Would it be better to wait to see if it's a boy or girl? (Joke) He thought to buy a bike but then didn't know whether to buy a boy's bike or a girl's one and so had to let that idea go. He doesn't know what to tell her about coming home. If he's lucky, he might be eligible for a direct appointment in which case he would not come home, but just doesn't know. He'll probably end up with nothing but hopes for the best. He's heard from Paul (no further identification) who is now a captain. He's not sure but doesn't think he's in Iwo Jima. It burns him up to see these guys advancing and he cannot get anywhere at all. Maybe it will all work out but he wonders. He doesn't know if she remembers him talking about Guy C. Thomas, a guy he lived with in Madisonville and Lexington while going to school. He's going to try to stop in Evansville on his furlough and so has been given hers and their mother's addresses. They will enjoy talking to him, and they should show him the pictures he sent. She's said something about Morgan (her husband) going to patrol meetings at home and he wants to know what in the devil those are. If they are what he thinks, she had better get him out of it or he'll be doing it in an army uniform.
