Description

Correspondence from Owen Hamilton to his sister June Meyer (June E. Hooe Hamilton Meyer, 1919-2010 (https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/81471045/june-e_hooe-meyer). He's getting fed up with school because it's the same thing over and over again and it's boring. He's looking into where other F.M. (frequency modulation) schools are so maybe he will have some idea where he might go once he finishes here. It may be that they think he's so dumb he has to hear something 3-4 times before he can learn it. It looks like a nice month for vacation and he has a lot of walking around he wants to do. It's like a summer resort with all the beautiful building around. There's a dance at the Armament building so he thinks he'll go and see what kind of women they have there. It they're as nice as they were in Pittsburg, KS he'd be happy to stay for the duration. There aren't any towns around with anything going on, so he's content to stay in camp. His mother has commented about the Masons and he says he'd like that as he wants to be in a fraternal organization. He saw one of those big cannons that are towed on a 4 wheel trailer, captured from the Germans in Africa. It was camouflaged and well shot up after we shelled it. This is one of the biggest, if not the biggest, artillery camps in the U.S. and they have a lot of big guns around. You can hear them firing all day although it doesn't bother him so long as it's not in his direction. He says to make sure Helen (no further identification) doesn't teach this fall because it would be hard to live on a ""mere salary"" as a teacher makes. He'd think himself a millionaire if he was making that much!
