Headstone in Cedar Hill Cemetery of Edward Smith, the first white settler in Corydon. He was born near London, England circa 1754 and died circa 1828. The Find a Grave website provides this additional information: He lived near the Fairgrounds Spring in south Corydon. His daughter, Jenny Smith sang a song O Corydon to the territorial governor William Henry Harrison (later US President) to inspire him to name the town after the shepherd boy in the song. Buried in unmarked grave South Corydon: Memorial Marker in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Corydon, Harrison Co, IN. because landowner didn't want a marker there. Also another memorial marker at Mauckport, Harrison Co., IN. Revolutionary War Service: Lieut. 7th Virginia Regiment. Was a prisoner in 1780. Retired Feb 12, 1781, on account of being absent as prisoner.
