Description

Aerial view of Indian Summer Inc. (vinegar) at 631 E. Walnut St. (the flat iron building) This building was built in 1912 by Grocers Chemical Works, renamed Crystal Pearl Co. in 1924, and finally Indian Summer in 1951. It was razed in 1995 by Memorial Baptist Church in its efforts to improve the area. A Subway restaurant is currently at this location. The church like building on the diagonal street now houses the Memorial Community Development Corporation (MCDC)[, which] is a non-profit corporation, conceived from the Memorial Baptist Church and established to change the economical, social, cultural, educational, and physical course of the inner city of Evansville, Indiana and the surrounding communities, as well as the lives of the people who live there. (http://www.memorialbaptchurch.com/page/mission_and_goals) The church itself is now a new building to the right of this (not built at the time of this photo) at 605 Canal St.
