Henry H. Haynie, according to his obituary, died in Los Angeles, CA at the age of 74 on January 27, 1925. He left Evansville due to failing health. In Evansville, he owned and operated the Randall Hotel, formerly 400 Upper 1st St. That location housed the Sherwood Hotel from 1839 until its 1895 purchase, remodel, and rename by Haynie. It was razed in 1904 for the Elks Club. In 1885 he narrowly lost the Democratic nomination for mayor, and served as 6th ward councilman and county assessor 1892-1896. Previously he had worked for the C. & EI railroad. He was the great-uncle of the originator of this collection.
