Description

Bendix-Westinghouse workers, IAM, AFL-CIO Lodge 2186 on strike. Bendix Westinghouse moved into what was the old Monitor Furniture Co. building at 950 E. Virginia St., next to C&EI RR (Chicago and Eastern Illinois Railroad) around 1956. The company made refrigeration units & automotive air suspension units. The building itself dates back to 1919, with the warehouse near the tracks added in 1928. Bendix was bought out in 1967; the factory has been razed but the warehouse still remains.
