Description

Anne Reilly and Mrs. Paul Schmidt leaving First Presbyterian Church at 601 SE 2nd St. The building dates to 1873-1874, but the congregation predates that. It was the first religious community in town. It changed names and merged with other congregations several times, finally becoming First Presbyterian in 1926. It still stands and has an active congregation today. Mrs. Paul Schmidt (Samuella) was married to an attorney. In her own right she was actively involved in the community and had been a dress designer of some renown. She died October 3, 1954. Anne Reilly never married, but was noted as a member of an early Evansville family upon her death on February 24, 1945.
