Description

Bedroom in a house at 726 SE 1st St. The city directory for 1944 lists the owner as Theodore Lockyear, and one of the tenants is the originator of this photographic collection, Florita Eichel. Lockyear may have been a family friend as he was listed as one of the pallbearers for Florita's nephew, Charles J. Eichel, Jr. The house to which this bedroom belongs was built in 1893 for George S. Sonntag and is Tuscan villa in style. Mrs. Samuel Bayard, widow of the president of Old National Bank moved in around 1870. It is not known when it came into Lockyear's possession. The house still stands today and appears to be in good condition.
