Description

The John S. Hopkins, a sternwheeler packet boat with a wooden hull (200 x 35.3 x 6) built in Sewickley, PA and finished in Pittsburgh, PA in 1880 docked at the Evansville Wharfboat. It was owned by the Evansville, Paducah & Cairo Mail Line and run by Paducahans, Capts. Joe and Dick Fowler among others. After being damaged by fire in 1882 she was rebuilt at Cincinnati, OH. In April 1912 she was converted into an excursion boat by Capt. J.B. Thompson of Evansville, IN. She burned after being laid up in the Green River in January 1917. The John S. Hopkins spent the majority of her years running in the Evansville-Paducah trade.
