Simpson (1902-1990) on tuba, Earl McDowell on drums, Curtis A. Hitch (1897-1988) on piano, Maurice B. May (1901-1957) on tenor sax, Fred A. Rollison (1905-1973) on cornet, and Harry Wright on sax and clarinet. According to Evansville at the Bend in the River, "The 1920s atmosphere was steeped in jazz, and many bands popped up in Evansville. [This band] performed regularly in Evansville and often on the Indiana University campus in Bloomington. The band assured itself a niche in musical history when it became the first to record the works of a young Bloomington composer named Hoagy Carmichael." 001529648 542__ $$fhttp://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC-NC/1.0/ 001529648 6531_ $$aArtists 001529648 6531_ $$aArts and Entertainment 001529648 6531_ $$aPeople and Communities 001529648 6531_ $$aPhotographs 001529648 6531_ $$aRelated Materials -- 1901-1950 001529648 655__ $$aBlack and White Photograph 001529648 691__ $$aUnknown 001529648 7001_ $$aUnknown 001529648 8564_ $$994fea1bf-3ce1-430b-ac43-7b45d927bba6$$s2098917$$uhttps://library.usi.edu/record/1529648/files/3759.jp2 001529648 8564_ $$9bf12e8e9-143d-46e2-a5f0-ff1511326d54$$s1667205$$uhttps://library.usi.edu/record/1529648/files/3759.jpg 001529648 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1529648$$pGLOBAL_SET 001529648 914__ $$ap17218coll2 001529648 980__ $$aSpecial & Regional History Collection 001529648 984__ $$aCurt Hitch Collection 001529648 985__ $$aImage
