Description

Carved, wooden sculpture of three monkeys; the first (from left to right) covering its mouth, the second its ears, and the third its eyes with their hands. These figures are referred to as the "Three Wise Monkeys" or "Three Mystical Monkeys," often said to represent the ancient Buddhist proverb which says, "See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil," but evidence of the three monkeys can be found among the Ashanti people in Ghana as early as 3,000 BC. 13cmX11.25cm
