Description
New Harmony School, with Murphy Auditorium in the background. New Harmony School at 1000 East St. The school, which opened in the early 1800s and was remodeled from the old Rappite/Harmonist church, particularly the door, closed in 2012. This building, however, dates to 1914 when the original building was torn down and what is shown here was built for the Centennial celebration. Note the ornate door, which came from the old Rappite church, and was again repurposed when the building shown here was torn--the doorway became a feature in Church Park. Murphy Auditorium at 419 Tavern St.""In 1911, the Working Mens Institute purchased a lot adjacent to their museum and library with the purpose of building an auditorium. This project was funded through the Dr. Edward Murphy fund. Today, the University of Southern Indianas Murphy Auditorium offers excellent space for conferences, concerts, lectures, and is home to the Universitys New Harmony Theatre Summer Season."
