Description

Identified as castor oil factory. It was built by the Harmonists (circa 1814-1824) and located on Tavern St. just off Main St." across the street from the Gypsy Girl Livery Stable. It was demolished in 1921. The building contains advertisements for Celluloid Starch and The Gus Sun American Minstrels troupe. On the right side of the picture, above the fence, laundry hanging out to dry can be seen. Side note: for a glimpse into this minstrel troupe, see http://www.heartofohioantiques.com/2017/02/13/gus-sun-bringing-hollywood-to-springfield/).
