Description
Jonathan Lenz., trustee of the Harmony Society from January 11, 1868 to January 22, 1890."" The last direct contact of the Harmonists with New Harmony came in the 1870s. In 1874 Jonathan Lenz was sent from Economy to purchase the brick church they had built in 1822 and which had since served the town as a ballroom, theater, and pork-packing plant. Lenz had all but the east wing razed and the bricks used to erect the five-foot-high wall that still protects the unmarked graves in the Rappite cemetery.
