Description
A 3-alarm fire destroyed the Luggage Shop fire at 423 Main St. on a Sunday morning. In all, 140 firefighters, 8 pumper trucks, and 3 snorkel trucks labored for about 3.5 hours to put out the fire that had started on the 3rd floor. The fire was attributed to a malfunctioning gas line that caused the boiler to overheat. No one was injured. Here bystanders watch the fire from in front of Old National Bank at 420 Main St., directly across the street. It would appear that the fire was contained/out by this time, as firefighters stand in the middle of the street. One's uniform says Althaus---the city directory lists a Scott T. Althaus who was chief administrative officer for the fire department.
