Description

Evansville's 17th Rifle Co. Marine Reserves attended summer training at Hawthorne Naval Ammunition Depot (now called Hawthorne Army Depot). With over 147,000 acres/226 square miles, it is the world's largest depot and a frequent site for desert training. This photograph appeared in the July 4, 1959 edition of the Evansville Courier with this caption:""Two southern Indiana Marines at summer camp in Hawthorne, Nev. take a break from training to watch a jet swish across the sky. They are Pfc. Jim Huth, Chandler (left) and Pfc. Don Rich, 2031 Cass Avenue. Both are members of Evansville's 17th Rifle Company, Marine Reserves."
