Toward the end of December 1977, the University of Evansville was to host a holiday basketball tournament at Roberts Stadium, and teams from Mercer University, University of New Orleans, and Murray State University were to play. After the December 13, 1977 plane crash that killed the entire UE basketball team, coaches, and others, SIU (Southern Illinois University) stepped in to pinch hit as host for the tournament. Although the individuals in this photograph are not identified, this photograph is related to that event. The shortest man's tie says SIU, so he is probably part of their athletic department.
