Description

Looking down the track at a train car on the tracks with derailed tanker cars and work crews in the background. It is probable that the car in the front is some sort of work car to help with the derailment as this car is clearly running, with steam billowing out the side, and it carries a crane. The derailment happened late on Tuesday, October 17, 1978 on a remote stretch of tracks between Dawson Springs, KY and Princeton, KY. It caused 18 cars of a 64 car Illinois Central Gulf Railroad train to derail, including 2 carrying vinyl chloride which exploded and burned.
