That day 4 more inches fell, and winds of 51 mph caused 8 ft. drifts and whiteout conditions, with a wind chill of 50 degrees below zero. People were trapped in their cars or at work if they weren't home, and businesses closed for 2 days. Some 80 people died in 16 states.
