Description

Streets: This historic photo, of the east side, of Main Street between Church and Tavern, was taken before 1888 and may be one of the oldest photos of this street. Only one of these original structures remain, The Centennial Saloon brick building in the center of the photo. The photo was most likely shot between 1876, the American Centennial year, and 1888, when the building to the left was torn down and a joint brick building was constructed in its place. In the photo a group of men are seen gathered around the outside of the saloon. Note the one-story wooden version of the J. Breith Building on the far left side of the photo.
