Streets Collection: Tavern Street. Historic Photo. This is a photo which was taken nearly 2 months after the August 17th fire that destroyed the Monitor Saloon, and several other buildings including a pharmacy, ice cream parlor, a butcher shop, Lyric Theatorium, a hardware store, New Harmony banking Co., and several residences. The fire occurred at the corner of Tavern Street and Main Street. From right to left the buildings still standing in the photo are: Harness and Express, Lichtenberger Furniture and China shop and third floor Masonic Hall, Lichtenberger Dry Goods and B & S, a saloon, Henry Brown clothing store and Knights of Pythias Hall on second floor, Grocery store and Hand Printing Shop on the second floor. Far left The burned out remnant of H. D. Long Bakery and Butcher Shop.
