Description
Streets: This historic photo of the east side of Main Street faces north, between Tavern and Church. The photo must have been taken after 1888 and before 1899 because there are three wooden buildings not four. The J Breith and Heckman Buildings are not yet present in this photo. The 1893 Sanborn Map lists the buildings from left to right: as a Grocery, Hardware, Pharmacy, Barber Shop (note the pole in front of this shop in the photo), a Saloon and Billiards Hall, a Saloon with a Print Shop and Restaurant on the second floor, a Tailor in the small wooden building, a Clothing and Shoe Shop, Lichtenberger Owen and Company dry goods and shoes, and a Furniture and Hardware Store.
